One Day I'm Gonna Whistle...
Well here it is.
I have been asked by friends to start up a blog for quite some time now. I guess the main reason being my eclectic taste in music. Admittedly anyone who can enjoy DJ Tiesto followed by Bob Dylan and not see it as weird does merit the title eclectic - so I kind of had to agree with them.
I had a request to do a "Song of the Week" style blog, but to be honest there is so much music out there and so much of it is good, who am I to judge? So I guess in the long run I am gonna try to show people some interesting tidbit in life and livingness - which hopefully can brighten up their day or make their life that much more worth living.
So how do I start? Track of the week? Happiness is? Coolest Website of the Week? Dunno, was sort of waiting for inspiration and learning some very very basic HTML the other night when I came across something in my downloads folder. A friend had sent it to me and asked me to watch it.
Well to start off with, if you have never heard of Edward Sharpe & The Magnetic Zeros, you need to watch this:
Once done you will appreciate the final link a lot more. Hopefully you like that otherwise you're not really gonna follow my blog for much longer.
Now I can't really figure out how to best introduce this one. From its ratings on youtube almost 9.5 million people like it and have watched it. And at the risk of sounding "soft" I'm gonna give my reasons why. If you read papers, web headlines, or watch TV or are in some way connected to any communication media available today you are aware that things on the planet look pretty grim quite a lot of the time. You have the semi-war in Libya and Britain's dubious interest and involvement, tsunami's in Japan coupled with nuclear fallout, murders are a daily thing and it is likely that it doesnt even register if you hear about one; and - most personal to me - the popular music industry is tearing real musicians apart and idolizing illiterate, drug-addicted, eccentric people daily. Sometimes I sit back and think, "What the hell is all this for?" "Is there really something worth working for?" or some such thing. Where does the average man fit in? When is something real gonna happen?
And to me it's little things that make life worthwhile. So I give this in evidence of the fact that some things truly are still worth smiling about...
For me it's her innocent statement, "One day I'm gonna whistle" that sums it all up.
Anyways, hopefully you enjoyed my first post and feel free to comment.
C U next time.
